npm Blog (Archive)

The npm blog has been discontinued.

Updates from the npm team are now published on the GitHub Blog and the GitHub Changelog.

Funding

I’m excited to announce that npm, Inc. has just closed a $2.6M seed round of financing.

True Ventures lead the round with additional participation from Jevon MacDonald and Gavin Uhma, who co-founded GoInstant.com and from Matt Mullenweg, who founded WordPress and knows a thing or two about BBQ. Charles Beeler and the team at Asynch Media (the people behind Node Summit) also participated.

Puneet Agarwal and the team at True Ventures have been amazing with a stream of advice to help us remain light, nimble, and focused on the open-source npm community. Many people warned me how hard fundraising would be, but True has made it very easy for us to focus on doing what really matters.

Some background on npm, Inc. for those of you landing here for the first time from various media outlets.

npm is the official package manager for Node.js. npm, Inc. supports the JavaScript community by providing the registry where developers publish and share packaged open-source modules.

npm, Inc. is led by Isaac Z. Schlueter (“isaacs of Node”, creator of npm, former Node.js BDFW), Laurie Voss (Yahoo!, Awe.sm, Chief Technical Seldo), and Rod Boothby (Joyent, Ernst & Young, Wells Fargo, Chief Operational Business Person). Read more about the founders.

What are we doing with the money?
